Your list of good Letterman guests is a good one, especially the first 4 who frequently use his guest chair to prove themselves the four most genuinely funny performers in Hollywood. I might reverse the order of them though:

1. Murray
2. Sedaris
3. Martin
4. Short

Here's 2 bad Letterman guests that used to be good ones:

1. Julia Roberts
2. Drew Barrymore

Since Dave became a dad and it's clear he's in a long term relationship, the formerly cute guests are no longer as fun. That's probably more Dave's fault, but these two in particular have become unbearably precious and self-impressed. Plus once you've shown your breasts on the show, you've peaked. There's nowhere to go but down.
