Baseball's back, and North America's got her!
Happy baseball season, everyone!
Like clockwork, my outlook on life-- and the seasons-- change each year at this time. In the Great Midwest, we earn our baseball season. The crap-tastic month of March takes a bow, and now it’s time to roll. Love it.
I’ve decided not to boycott the major league baseball season this year, even though I'm frightened of the obscene amount of media attention I’ll be subjected to regarding Derek Jeter’s final season. There are too many other things to look forward to to let that fear spoil a good time. The Cardinals again are loaded. The Cubs again are not. (Today, game #3, a Cubs player took the field wearing the wrong jersey.) There's been extraordinary parity in the league since the start of the new century. Instant replay promises to be a good idea executed by MLB as badly as possible. Vin Scully is still broadcasting Dodgers games. The world has just been introduced to never-before-seen video of Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig in action. My wife has almost every aspect of the game yet to learn. The sport has found the long-sought-after solution to its problem with PEDs, and Chad Curtis is safely behind bars.
Let's all be good fans this year. Let's actually show up at the games, but stay off the field when we're there. And for God's sake, don't flip the bird, or flip the Birds, as it were. How can an enterprise with so many embarrassing imperfections be so damn perfect?
Go Cards!
