They hate Bernie more than they hate Trump
As Matt Taibbi writes today, the Democrats have just sent a giant fuck you to Bernie Sanders and his supporters by nominating Neera Tanden for the head of the Office of Management and Budget. This is no meaningless position and the political strategy couldn't be more targeted. Tanden is the biggest anti-Sanders Democrat in all the Twitter-verse. She believes every one of his supporters is a Russian tool and a secret Trump lover. This opinion extends to Edward Snowden, who received my write-in vote for president, and to pretty much every supporter of a third party. Years ago she physically assaulted Bernie's 2016 campaign manager. She was a union buster at Think Progress. The WikiLeaks emails revealed that the professed "liberal" opposes the $15 an hour minimum wage. She publicly opposes fracking bans, Medicare for All, and the Green New Deal. She didn't try to hide those positions. Upon her nomination this week, she has deleted more than 1,000 of her past tweets. Her punching to the left fits directly into the Biden campaign promise to woo the Republican right. Now she’s been placed distinctly in the position where Sanders, as the future chair of the Senate Budget Committee (Georgia-pending), would need to go through her with every budget action. Elizabeth Warren, Barbara Lee, and Stacey Abrams have all praised the nomination, and Sanders, keeping with his strategy of the past eight months, has said nothing.The reason they prefer Trump to Bernie should be obvious. Not a single one of these Washington careerist assholes has had their insider status threatened by a Trump presidency, a hypothetical Trump second term, or now by a future Trumpist administration. They would still be comfy Clintonist hacks fighting the #resistance. But a Sanders takeover of their own party would take them out at the knees.
