The Great Muppet Conspiracy

The Muppets are feuding with Fox News. Fox Business anchor Eric Bolling did a story on-air in December about how Jim Henson's charming little stitched-felt creations are part of a liberal Hollywood agenda. (I have not seen the report, but I'm sure it was brilliant.) He accused the Muppets of being anti-corporate and anti-oil because they do battle with ruthless oil executives in their new film.

Kermit the Frog responded late last week with a denial, "It's a funny thing, they were concerned about us having some prejudice against oil companies, and I can tell you, that's categorically not true." Then Miss Piggy, Kermit's long-time on-and-off-again domestic partner, went further, calling the charge "almost as laughable as accusing Fox News of being news." Hi-ya! Piggy with a karate kick to the crotch!

This is a fascinating feud. On the one side, you've got an assemblage of anthropomorphic figures on a stage-- their words and actions tightly-controlled by invisible strings and master puppeteers. And then you have the Muppets.
