There was a great movie from 1997 called Eve's Bayou, that I often put at the top of my list. It's about a small town of mostly well-to-do French and African descendents in Louisiana in the 1950s. It's funny, dramatic, beautifully photographed, and interesting culturally. These are characters that have never been in the movies before. It was Roger Ebert's top film that year. Samuel L. Jackson stars, along with more beautiful sistahs of all ages than you've ever seen at one time in your life.
I briefly posted my top 50 movies of all time on a website I had up for one day last weekend before I found this superior site. I hope to get that out again next week for you to critique and edit before the holidays.

Chris, you've mentioned Election and Chinatown. Any other suggestions? I'll be needing some entertainment soon during Christmas break. TA
